This is accomplished within targeted audiences through provision of customized training, expert assistance, and dissemination of information developed by various sources, including the federal agencies responsible for enforcement of the ADA. We are not an enforcement or regulatory agency, but a helpful resource supporting the ADA’s mission to “make it possible for everyone with a disability to live a life of freedom and equality.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-824b45817384a48cf51d3c0c2f1d635c\">The Center provides information, materials, technical assistance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). Topics addressed includes the non-discrimination requirements in employment, the obligations of state and local governments and business to ensure that programs, services and activities are readily accessible to and usable by people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8999290cfe5110336ce13557544c76e1\">The Great Lakes ADA Center’s Accessible Technology Initiative encourages incorporation of accessible information technology in K-12 and postsecondary school settings. Accessible Information Technology incorporates the principles of universal design so that people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities can access information disseminated electronically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bdb52c1b7383307a8294b1db8193dab5\">The Great Lakes ADA Center’s service area is designated as region 5 and is a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adata.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ADA National Network<\/a> which is comprised of 10 regional centers funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, Rehabilitation and Research (NIDILRR), a division of the Administration for the Community Living (ACL), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-neve-link-hover-color-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7121b8c915d11795f90f5f220c7ea80c\">The six states within the region served by the Center include: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Illinois.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Illinois<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Indiana.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Indiana<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Michigan.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michigan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Minnesota.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Minnesota<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Ohio.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ohio<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adagreatlakes.org\/SteeringCommittees\/Wisconsin.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wisconsin<\/a>. We have established ADA Affiliates in each state that represent the business community, government agencies, disability rights groups, and other interested parties.
